Wer kennt nicht den Klassiker: Deutschlands einziger Rohstoff sei die Bildung! Vielleicht liegt es an diesem übermäßig strapazierten und überdies sachlich falschen Schlagwort, dass das Thema Bildung als so wichtig eingeordnet wird, dass es die Gesellschaft in zwei nahezu unversöhnliche Lager spaltet. Auf der einen Seite stehen die "Traditionalisten", die an die herkömmlichen "humanistischen", am Gymnasium vermittelten Werte und Methoden glauben, auf der anderen Seite die vermeintlich "Progressiven", denen die Themen "Teilhabe" und "Gerechtigkeit" besonders am Herzen liegen. Es ist beiden Lagern eigen, dass sehr gerne und überaus selektiv die Ergebnisse nationaler und internationaler Erhebungen und Vergleiche (PISA!) herangezogen werden, um die jeweilige Position zu untermauern und entsprechende Forderungen an die Politik zu formulieren. Vieles an dieser Diskussion ist einerseits verbrämte Besitzstandswahrung und andererseits die unverblümte Übertragung linker gesellschaftlicher Projektionen ins Bildungswesen. So viel Ehrlichkeit sollte sein. Wie viel Substanz oft wirklich dahintersteckt, ist gut zu beobachten, wenn beispielsweise linke Politiker, wie Manuela Schwesig, ihren Nachwuchs vorzugsweise auf Privatschulen unterrichten lassen, oder wenn Verfechter des Gymnasiums und der damit verbundenen vermeintlich strengen Auslese ihre eigenen Kinder, sobald die Noten nicht stimmen, in der vagen und oft vergeblichen Hoffnung einer leichteren Erlangung des Abiturs, einen letzten Versuch auf einer Gesamtschule starten lassen. Die deutsche Bundespolitik hat es eigentlich leicht: Bildung ist Ländersache. Nicht erst seit Kurzem werden allerdings Stimmen laut, die fordern, diese Gestaltungskompetenz auf den Bund zu verlagern. Doch der ist in jüngster Vergangenheit in Sachen Bildung vor allem durch eine Schein-Akademisierung bestimmter Berufsbilder wie zum Beispiel der Krankenpflege und des vorschulischen Erziehungswesens aufgefallen und hat damit weder eine bessere Akzeptanz und Nachfrage dieser Mangelberufe noch höhere Gehälter geschaffen. Gewöhnlich ist der Verdienst bei Akademikern spürbar höher als bei Nichtakademikern. Wenn es allerdings um Studienfächer mit geringerer beruflicher Nachfrage geht, ist der jahrelange Verdienstvorsprung beispielsweise von Facharbeitern faktisch nicht mehr einzuholen.
